Meet Oliver Shields – Rebuilding From Experience

Oliver Shields is a former Army serviceman currently stepping into a new chapter defined by family, healing, and personal transformation.
Recently leaving army life behind, Oliver is now adjusting to a very different pace, one centred around rebuilding identity beyond structure and uniform, while preparing for a major life milestone with a baby due in the coming weeks. Alongside being a husband and a father to an 8-year-old daughter, family has become the anchor point of everything he is now working towards.
His journey hasn’t been without challenge. Oliver openly acknowledges a past shaped by mental health struggles and substance use, alongside deeper generational patterns rooted in a humble upbringing and an Irish immigrant family background. These experiences have not defined him, but they have shaped the path he is now committed to changing.
At the centre of his current focus is a deep commitment to health and self-development. With a strong passion for fitness, Oliver is actively working towards a future in the wellness space, with ambitions to become a massage therapist, and long-term goals of qualifying as a personal trainer, yoga teacher, and NLP practitioner.
His personal mission is grounded in perspective:
To take life less seriously, to practice forgiveness, and to commit to ongoing inner work. He believes in improving physical, mental, and financial wellbeing while learning to let go of the weight of the past and extend grace to both himself and others.
He draws inspiration from figures like Chase Hughes, a former Navy veteran whose work in behaviour, mindset, and human psychology reflects Oliver’s own interest in understanding people and personal transformation.
Three Words That Describe Him:
Empathic, Outgoing, Fun.
Through Legacy Bench, Oliver hopes to gain clarity, direction, and meaningful connections as he steps into this next chapter of rebuilding life beyond the army.
