Rebecca Kelly is a data and technology lawyer, entrepreneur, and published author with more than 25 years of experience advising businesses on commercial, data, and technology matters. As the founder of her own legal practice and creator of the legal document platform shizl, Rebecca is on a mission to make high-quality legal support accessible to businesses of every size, helping founders and SMEs protect their ideas without the traditional barriers of cost and complexity.
At the heart of Rebecca’s work is a belief that good legal advice should not be a privilege reserved for large organisations with significant budgets. Every business, from ambitious start-ups to established SMEs, deserves access to clear, reliable, and practical legal documents that provide confidence and reduce risk from day one.
Rebecca’s career has evolved alongside the changing business landscape. Beginning as a corporate lawyer advising on business acquisitions and sales, she later moved in-house, where she developed extensive expertise negotiating commercial and technology contracts. Drawing on decades of experience across both private practice and industry, she established her own legal practice in 2015, giving businesses straightforward legal advice grounded in commercial reality.
Recognising that many smaller businesses were still priced out of quality legal support, Rebecca founded shizl in 2021. The platform was designed to provide simple-to-use, professionally drafted legal and compliance documents at a fraction of the traditional cost, helping businesses access trusted legal resources without relying on generic templates or the risks associated with AI-generated documents.
Inspired by pioneers such as Betty Boothroyd, Rebecca admires people who overcome barriers through determination, resilience, and hard work. As someone passionate about widening access to the legal profession and legal services alike, she believes talent and opportunity should never be limited by background, and that expertise should be used to open doors rather than create obstacles.
But Rebecca’s ambitions extend beyond building a successful legal technology platform. She wants to empower entrepreneurs with the confidence to grow their businesses knowing their legal foundations are secure. By making legal support more accessible, she hopes to remove one of the biggest challenges many founders face during the early stages of building a business.
