Meet the Founder Turning Pain Into Purpose: The Story Behind Hugs & Suds®
Kiva Lownie isn’t a typical inventor. She’s a mother, a survivor, and the founder of Hugs & Suds® — the world’s first patented, UKCA-tested shower-safe baby carrier, created through grief, ADHD, and unconditional love.
Her story began with loss. While seven months pregnant with her third child, she lost her brother Steven at just 23. Life moved on but the trauma stayed. Years later, history repeated itself when her daughter, also seven months pregnant, lost her partner.
Then came the moment that changed everything.
Watching her daughter try to shower, holding her baby with one hand, overwhelmed and in tears turned a simple daily task into something unsafe and frightening. That moment became her “why.”
Hugs & Suds® was born from that reality, a solution built not from theory, but lived experience.
Now diagnosed and medicated for ADHD at 43, she’s finally working with her mind, not against it. Turning years of pain, grief, cancer, PTSD, and single motherhood into something meaningful.
She didn’t want to build something for profit. She wanted to build something that helps.
Her mission was clear:

Make something that turns a stressful, risky, everyday moment into one of safety, bonding, and calm.
Through Legacy Bench, Kiva hopes to amplify her story, gain direction for her next steps, and inspire others with to believe that they can create world-changing things when life tries to break us.
