Meet Paula — The Technology Consultant Helping Organisations Build a More Responsible Digital Future

Paula Mesa Macías is the founder of Pau&Company, a technology consultancy that helps organisations understand, manage, and reduce technology risks. With a background in Telecommunications Engineering and expertise spanning privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and sustainability, Paula works with businesses to build digital systems that are not only innovative, but also resilient, responsible, and aligned with long-term organisational goals.
At the heart of Paula’s work is a belief that technology should serve people, not the other way around. As digital systems become increasingly embedded in every aspect of society, she believes organisations have a responsibility to understand the wider impact of the technologies they adopt and to make decisions that balance innovation with accountability.
Driven by this philosophy, Paula is also developing the Ethical Software Framework, a research initiative designed to help organisations assess technology through a broader lens of governance, ethics, and risk. Rather than focusing solely on technical performance, the framework encourages leaders to consider how digital systems affect people, organisations, and society as a whole.
Throughout her career, Paula has worked across multiple disciplines, bringing together expertise in cybersecurity, data privacy, AI, and sustainability. This broad perspective allows her to help organisations navigate increasingly complex digital challenges while ensuring technology supports strategic objectives rather than creating unnecessary risk.
Inspired by organisations such as Mozilla, the Ada Lovelace Institute, and the Alan Turing Institute, Paula admires the way they combine engineering, research, and public policy to create practical solutions for the challenges of technological change. She believes the future of innovation depends on collaboration across disciplines, ensuring that technological progress benefits both organisations and society.
But Paula’s ambition extends beyond helping organisations manage risk. She wants to encourage a different way of thinking about technology, one where ethical decision-making, resilience, and human impact are considered alongside innovation from the very beginning. For her, responsible technology is not about slowing progress; it is about building systems that people can trust.
Her mindset is simple but powerful: the best technology is technology that improves people’s lives while protecting what matters most.
Three Words To Describe Paula: Analytical. Practical. Human-centred.
Paula joins The Legacy Bench ready to share her expertise in responsible technology, connect with innovators and business leaders, and contribute to conversations about building a safer, more resilient, and more human-centred digital future.
