From Aspiration to Ambition: Grace’s Journey into Music, Media & Finding Her Voice
In her Legacy Bench conversation, Grace Eccles opens up about a growing career shaped by passion, resilience, and a clear drive to break into the world of music journalism and presenting.
At the centre of Grace’s story is a deep love for music, culture, and storytelling. Expressed through her growing presence on TikTok, where she creates content around music, news, and pop culture. It’s a space she has built independently, using digital media as a way to develop her voice and begin shaping her place within the industry she hopes to enter.
Her journey, however, is also defined by challenge.
Grace reflects on being diagnosed with epilepsy during her time at the University of Salford, and the impact this had on her studies and confidence. Despite the difficulties, she continued to push forward, ultimately graduating with a 2:1 in Multimedia Journalism. A reflection of both resilience and determination in the face of disruption.
She also speaks about growing up in Blackburn, a northern town where opportunities in media and creative industries can feel limited. Rather than letting this define her path, Grace has used it as motivation, building her own platforms and actively seeking ways to step into the industry she wants to be part of.
A pivotal moment in her development came when she interviewed Fatboy Slim for a university project. A full-hour conversation exploring social media and underground rave culture. For Grace, this experience solidified what she wants to do long-term: interview artists, tell cultural stories, and work within music media on a larger scale.
Now, she is focused on turning that ambition into reality.
From growing her TikTok page GraceTalksMusic, to exploring the potential of launching a podcast, Grace is actively working towards building a career as a TV presenter and music journalist, one that allows her to combine personality, curiosity, and storytelling.
Her mission is simple: to turn passion into profession, and creativity into opportunity.
